Designed to be an urban playground, the new 150-room Williamsburg Hotel opening later this year, will feature a rooftop pool, bar and cocktail den; subterranean nightclub; full-service restaurant and a grand ballroom. But more than just being a cool place to stay or dance the night away, The Williamsburg Hotel wants to pay homage to the traditions of the neighborhood, reflecting the city’s past through architecture and attitude.
“I grew up coming to my family’s business around the corner from where our hotel stands,” said property developer Toby Moskovits. “It’s important to everyone on this project that we not only embrace the history of Williamsburg, but show the neighborhood and our guests a good time, too.”
Located on the corner of Wythe Ave and North 10th St., the property’s rooftop bar will be situated inside a replica water tower, built especially for the hotel and modeled after the old water tower factory across the street. The exterior will be very industrialized with a brick, glass and steel façade and a luxurious interior meant to rival NYC’s best high-end hotels. Guest rooms will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and offer private balconies with uninterrupted views of the Manhattan skyline.
Typically, Brooklyn is known for being trendy, and Williamsburg in particular is considered the birthplace of hipsterdom. So maybe it’s just us, but something about another industrially-designed luxury hotel, seems less than forward-thinking here. While admittedlly we do love its interiors, we expected something a little more unique for Williamsburg. Either way, we’re thankful to see a four-star hotel here, even if it is all part of the city’s gentrification—but that’s a whole other topic.
