Honolulu’s Most Instagrammable Sights & Views
Picturesque is one of the words most often used to describe Honolulu. Steps away from Waikiki Beach and world-renowned shopping, there is no better place to set up camp than at The Modern Honolulu. Between strolls on silky, white sand beaches and hikes through lush rainforest, it's hard to call this picture perfect city anything less than camera ready.
Blue skies, endless waves and sandy beaches abound—there are few places on Earth that are more photogenic than Honolulu. In addition to being a little slice of paradise, the city also happens to be the perfect place to capture a #humblebrag vacation snap. While you're out soaking up the sun, be sure to snap a few of these unimitable sights:
Diamond Head
A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when it's taken at this appropriately-named volcanic hiking hotspot. The well-trekked area gives hikers 360-degree views of the city skyline, as well as miles of glassy blue Pacific Ocean. Be sure to trek up early enough to capture the ending of a truly newsfeed-worthy Hawaiian sunset.
Pearl Harbor
The apex of World War II played itself out on Honolulu's crystal shores when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941. The USS Arizona was one of the ships that was sunk on that fateful day, but the recovered carrier now serves as a memorial that thousands of tourists can visit to pay their respects. Enjoy views of the serene waters contrasting the stark white of the memorial while capturing your own little slice of history.
Hanauma Bay
If you're trying to cozy up with some of the local wildlife for a once-in-a-lifetime selfie, then Hanauma Bay is the place to be. The legendary snorkel spot is home to sea turtles, dolphins and an assortment of curious tropical fish just waiting to be captured in the perfect shot. After filling up your camera roll with loads of new pictures, take a moment to work on your tan on the bay's long stretch of white sand beach.
Manoa Falls
Though 17 feet smaller than Niagara Falls, Honolulu's own waterfall is no less photogenic. The 1.5 mile hike to the waterfall will take you on a dog-friendly trail that winds through dense, lush jungle. Fun fact: several scenes from the show LOST and Jurassic Park were shot in this area, giving you all the more reason to capture Manoa Falls' natural beauty on camera.
Iolani Palace
It makes sense that a palace fit for a queen would also make for some pretty great snapshots. Take in the splendor of the lavish throne room, where the former king and queen held balls that Disney princesses would covet. While the palace itself is the stuff of dreams, be sure to get a few photos of other landmarks on the grounds, like the Keliiponi Hale Pavilion, which is where Hawaii's last king was coronated.
Waikiki Beach
Immortalized by the Beach Boys in their song Hawaii, Waikiki Beach has become known the world over for its never-ending stream of perfect waves and non-stop sunshine. Do as the locals do and grab a loco moco or spam musubi from a local spot for lunch, then indulge in your feast on the sand for a drool-worthy beach picnic pic. When in Waikiki, the living is easy and the pictures are a-plenty.
