Tucked away near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Chateau du Sureau is one of those upscale, elegant getaways that just feels like home. The name itself means Elderberry Castle and it feels just like a castle in the mountains, a welcoming sanctuary with 10 gorgeous guest rooms as well as a private two-bedroom private villa known as Villa du Sureau.
Surrounded by enchanting gardens, towering pines, and bubbling fountains, this hidden gem looks like it’s taken out of a European storybook and transported in the middle of these majestic California mountains.
The entrance opens into a salon with a living room feel where guests can sit by the fireplace, enjoy a cup of tea, read a book, or play the piano.
The coziness of the place is elevated by the staff who treats every guest like family.
Everything at Chateau du Sureau has a personal touch and the staff greets each guest by name upon arrival, while at the same time making sure that everything is as they please.
When arriving for the complimentary and delicious breakfast, each guest's table is set according to their preference and it’s almost like they know exactly what each person wants even before asking.
Each of the rooms has its own magic and is unlike the others. Even the keys feel like they came from an 18th century European castle.
The Lavender Room is located on a private corner of the Château, making it perfect for a romantic getaway. The room features a king size sleigh bed, wood-burning fireplace, and sitting area. Guests particularly enjoy this room’s charming balcony next to the stone turret with sweeping views of the grounds and nearby mountains.
The Chamomile Room is warm and inviting featuring lavish mahogany furnishings and French art. The king size canopy bed is situated for a perfect view of the wood-burning fireplace and the step-out balcony over the hillside and the garden. After a stroll of the grounds, enjoy a hot shower or a soak in the limestone bathtub.
The Rosemary Room is an oasis of calm and relaxation. A king size canopy bed romantically envelopes you with its French fabric.
One of the Estate’s larger accommodations, the Thyme Room is an exquisite combination of style and beauty.
The Rosehip Room is a blend of contemporary and old-world flair.
The Sweet Geranium Room features vaulted ceilings and a sweeping view from a private balcony.
Distinctive and dramatic, the romantic Saffron Room excites and delights. Repose like royalty in an opulent king size bedroom set from 1834 of ebony wood with ivory inlay.
The Elderberry Room is bright and cheerful with tall cathedral ceilings and large windows dressed in pale yellow and berry blue colored fabrics.
Situated in the West Wing beyond a fragrant rose garden with views from a step-out balcony, the Mint room is perfect for those seeking privacy.
The Ciboulette Room evokes the charm and beauty of the French countryside. Surrounded by vintage botanical sketches and a European tapestry, there is the convenience of two double beds and a writing nook with a French provincial desk.
