Brilliant in Brickell: W Miami

Courtesy of W Miami

The Miami sunshine glitters of the waters below as I sip my coffee from the 15th floor terrace overlooking the city. A sprawling pool behind me, and the day ahead of me, I take another sip and take in the beautiful morning complete with a calm, warm breeze that matches my mood. The W Miami gives me space to gather my thoughts; the soothing and chic finishes, the location and friendly service are a perfect blend for this property.

Home to 146 guest rooms ranging in room type “Wonderful” to “Marvelous” and 1 “Wow” Suite, the accommodations do not disappoint. Bay and city skyline views put you in a Florida state of mind while on the property, the large  and integrated technology in the rooms making for a contemporary stay. Located within the Brickell District, the part of the city extends your stay into the outdoors with trails, an adjacent park and nearby shopping and dining. Nightlife is abundant in Miami, but I suggest you first see what it happening on the hotel’s own rooftop where the WET deck on the 50th floor can be the life of the party.

The hotel restaurant, is located on the 15thfloor and is not to be missed. Chef Christian Quinones, a Puerto Rican native, turns up the Miami heat with the use of spices, sauces and even smoking dishes for vibrant flavors and presentations. For dinner, I tried the Bang Bang Tuna Tartare; served with avocado, sweet and sour bang bang sauce and peppers. Guests are encouraged to get a little of everything before breaking off a piece of the rice crackling for a satisfying crunch and explosion of flavors. The Local Grouper was fantastic as well, with black grouper, watercress, and an heirloom carrot salad. Save room for dessert for items such as the Golden Opera, Yuzu Curd, or Drunken Apples. For burger lovers, try the unique Add Burger with melted Angus patty, garlic shrimp, paprika aioli, cilantro aioli on an artisan bun.

I also dined at ADDiKT for breakfast; a standout on the menu: the Amazonian Remedy with icy kefir, fresh banana, goji berries, granola and toasted coconut flakes. I suggest a cup of coffee and a stroll along the sprawling pool terrace where a seating area at the end of the terrace overlooks the bay. Adjacent to the pool is the Iconbrickell Spa. The water lounge is akin to a movie set, with distinctive lounge areas, soaring ceilings and two-story windows that are quite impressive. Spa-goers can enjoy everything from body wraps to couples’ massages, steam rooms and men’s and women’s lounges.

W Miami is a prime spot to not only enjoy the hotel itself, but to venture out into the city as well. If not dining at the hotel, a short walk over the bridge to Boulud Sud is an excellent Happy Hour choice with excellent cocktails and a mouthwatering lamb. For breakfast, B Bistro and Bakery offer a plethora of baked goods, munching away a ham and -made croissant I suggest a walk on Brickell Key Drive to an island that affords a great view of the city and bay alike.

The distinguished Easter-Island- pillars of the W Miami building front drive make it an easily identified structure; the attention to detail and service notable in the industry for an excellent stay in Miami from the front drive to the thoughtful artistic touches throughout the property. Whether watching the yachts float by from Miami Circle National Historic Landmark, enjoying the views from your room, or dining at the excellent ADDiKT restaurant, W Miami is a property I look forward to revisiting again and again.
