Portland is a hip city; the ever-growing dining scene, the scenic parks and river walks, nearby Willamette wine country, and a thriving art and cultural scene. A new build soaring 16 stories above the Fountain District is The Porter Hotel, a Curio Collection by Hilton property. Having never been to Portland, this hotel was a perfect introduction to the city. Rather than “Keeping Portland Weird,” the contemporary stay is a chic addition to the hotel scene.
Commuting from the airport to the hotel is relatively easy and quick; the Fountain District a great landing point in the extremely walkable city of Portland. The main lobby is welcoming and affords several nooks to relax or enjoy a cocktail in the adjoining Terrane Italian Kitchen and Bar. Also adjoining the lobby, the Exchange Grocer and Goods. I especially enjoyed this dining option for breakfast; the unique pastries and on the go options fuel for the day. They also carry local products and wines.
If wanting a quick lunch option, the Porter has its own on-the-street Chiosco Pizza Window. Scratch-made Romano-style pizza is enjoyed by both guests and locals alike in the bustling district. My favorite, however, was the xport bar and lounge. Overlooking the city with two terraces, outdoor fire pits and a cocktail menu that will impress even the most astute imbibers, the ambiance and location make for a truly luxury lounge experience.
The rooms at the Porter are a balanced fusion of modern décor and rustic elements. Natural wood surfaces contrast with crisp, white linens and sleek furniture. Large windows allow in plenty of natural light, and marble-encased bathrooms are spa-like in status. Upgrades are available for floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of the Cascade Mountains.
The pool in the lower level does leave something to be desired, but is great for families with kids who are just looking to splash around. A co-ed sauna and steam room are also available as well as a well-equipped fitness facility. A unique aspect to this lower-level space is a meditation and yoga space, allowing for natural light through an atrium to find your inner peace.
Whether walking the city, enjoying the local food and wine scene, taking in a ballet at the Oregon Ballet Theatre, or visiting acclaimed (and nearby) House Spirits Distillery, The Porter Hotel is a wonderful luxury stay ideally located and beautifully executed.
