Last weekend Starwood Hotels & Resorts finally began construction for the 33-acre Solaz, their first Luxury Collection Resort in Los Cabos—though the brand already has seven hotels in Mexico. Set for a June 2017 opening, the resort is located on the southern tip of Baja California Sur and will include 131 guestrooms and suites across five different buildings.
With Mexico City-based artists and architects on hand, the hotel's aesthetic is heavily influenced by the surrounding culture and environment. “It is designed to immerse our discerning global guests and residents in the indigenous beauty of the destination, while delivering the unparalleled luxury service the brand is known for,” says Patricio del Portillo, Director of Development & Acquisitions for Mexico & Central America, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Original works from landscape architects Gabayet 101 Paisaje and artist Cesar Lopez Negrete will be displayed throughout the property, while the rooms will be designed utilizing a muted color palette inspired by the landscape and ocean.
Aside from the suites, Solaz will also include a large spa, residences, a private beach club, and several ownership vacation units. There will also be three restaurants on site—including an all-day option and a pool grill—three tennis courts, miles of walking/running paths, and over 9,900 square feet of event space.
