It’s always a good time when we head out to Gillette Stadium to watch the Patriots team up against
It’s an even better time when our visit starts off with a food fiesta at Scorpion Bar Patriot Place.
If you come here during the Patriots home game season, we recommend checking out this Mexican hot spot for either a pre-game or post-game visit. The restaurant is open year round so you can come here after checking out the shops at Patriot Place, before a concert at Gillette Stadium or after work during the week.
We recently visited and got started with a pitcher of their classic margarita that we shared alongside the Birria quesadilla. The Scorpion Bar’s take on this popular Mexican dish features a creative twist – think beer braised short rib in flour tortillas combined with Oaxaca cheese, and sweet Vidalia onions topped with a tasty cilantro relish.
The Esquites were a standout appetizer for us – Mexican style street corn presented off the cob combined with garlic and chili aioli, cotija cheese, roasted red peppers, charred Cipollini onions and cilantro served with a colorful array of corn tortilla chips.
Don’t miss their signature “wicked” grilled wings that come in a variety of flavors, including garlic parmesan, lemon pepper, truffle buffalo, mango habanero, honey Sriracha and our favorite – spiced up jalapeno garlic.
For main events, we recommend the smothered burrito. A gargantuan overstuffed flour tortilla arrived filled with carne asada, chorizo, red rice, pinto beans, cotija cheese and salsa drizzled with sour cream and garnished with fresh lettuce. The Instagram-worthy burrito was the talk of the dining room when it arrived and was so enormous we were unable to finish it.
The chicken fajitas here arrive sizzling with all of the traditional accouterments, including peppers, onions, mushrooms, green onions, black beans, red rice, pico de gallo, cheese and warm flour tortillas.
If you can save room for dessert (unfortunately we did not), they offer two selections - warm cinnamon churros or fried ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, dulce de leche and whipped cream.
Scorpion Bar Patriot Place is popular with a late night crowd so be sure to arrive on the earlier side for a quieter dinner or a few drinks. The restaurant has two outdoor patios and a gargantuan indoor 200-inch TV, so you don’t miss any of the sports action next door.
The restaurant also offers weekly events, including all-you-can-eat tacos on Tuesdays; a “Macho Meal” pairing of two tacos, a beer and churro on Thursday nights and free locos nachos with the purchase of a large format cocktail on Fridays.
Scorpion Bar Patriot Place is located at 253 Patriot Place in Foxboro, MA.
