By now, you’d be pretty hard pressed to find a traveler who doesn’t expect a contemporary, trendy and energetic atmosphere any time they step into a W hotel. Known for their always-cool digs and dramatic designs, the brand is a favorite among stylish travelers and in-the-know guests. In Atlanta, the Starwood-owned properties are sprinkled around the city in three neighborhoods: Buckhead, Midtown and Downtown.
The latter sits in the middle of all the action, with the city center right outside its doors and some of the ATL’s best attractions just minutes away. When it comes to accommodations, W Atlanta - Downtown has some of the coolest rooms around. Designed with natural elements and sensual style, each has its own unique character with teal, charcoal and plum accents set against Makassar wood and glossy lacquer.
While all their choices are impressive, the Cool Corner Room has great floor-to-ceiling windows on two walls, making it one of our favorites. But if you really want to do Atlanta well, you might want to book the Extreme Wow Suite (which says it all in the name). The 1750-square-foot, two-bedroom space comes with a grand media viewing area with 37” LCD TV as well as a dining room, 2.5 bathrooms, large wet bar and panoramic views of the city. Both rooms come with king size beds with goose down comforters, pillow-top mattresses and chic headboards. Plus, the master bath comes with a free standing tub that overlooks the city’s skyline, which means bath time might just become your favorite hour of the day.
If you’ve ever been to Atlanta, you know how hot it gets during its warmer months. Luckily, the hotel’s pool is open 24/7. WET DECK, the city’s only all-weather rooftop facility provides guests with a way to beat the heat with its covered zero-edge pool and the WETBAR which serves food and drinks. On the weekends during the summer, the venue plays host to a number of lively events from Memorial Day to Labor Day. UNPLUG on Fridays, PLAY on Saturdays and CHILL on Sundays with H2oM Yoga.
Another way to unwind is by visiting Bliss Spa which W calls their “hip, not-your-spa-next-door” facility. The brand’s trademark spa pampers guests with various treatment rooms, a retail boutique, men’s and women’s locker rooms/lounges, sinkside soap samplings and a section of snacks such as cheese, olives, cheese, flatbread and a brownie buffet.
After indulging in an Oxygen Facial or Ginger Rub pedicure, be sure to experience W Atlanta - Downtown’s signature restaurant: BLT Steak. Helmed by Chef Tourondel, the eatery is his adaption of the American Steakhouse. Showcasing regional blackboard specials, seafood, a full raw bar, and of course delicious Kobe steaks, guests can also expect to find classic French bistro elements mixed into his creations. If you’d rather enjoy dinner in your PJ’s, some of the restaurant’s dishes can be found in your 24-hour in-room booklet.
With the 70,500-seat Georgia Dome, home to the Atlanta Hawks and Falcons, the five-million-gallon Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park and a number of restaurants, shopping and museums nearby, there’s a pretty good chance your hardest decision will be what to explore first. Any way you look at it, this urban oasis is one of the best hotel choices in the city.
