Every year, Italian watch brand Officine Panerai sponsors a stunning series of yacht races around the world under the aegis of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. The North American circuit of the PCYC will begin in New England in August with a new race, the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
Slated for August 6-8, the Marblehead event joins the already established PCYC regattas of the Opera House Cup in Nantucket, Massachusetts (August 12-15) and the Museum of Yachting's Classic Yacht Regatta in Newport, Rhode Island (September 3-5).
Every year, as a tribute to its own historic association with the sea, Officine Panerai creates a Special Edition watch specially for the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. For the 2011 edition of the circuit, Officine Panerai has created the Luminor Submersible 1950 Regatta 3 Days GMT Automatic Titanio 47 mm — a professional diver's watch, water-resistant to 30 atmospheres (about 300 meters), fitted with a rotating bezel with a graduated scale for calculating the duration of the dive.
Other PCYC regattas include the British Classic Yacht Club Cowes Regatta July 17-24 on the Isle of Wight, UK and the Mediterranean Circuit, which emcompasses: Les Voiles d'Antibes, which took place June 2-6, in Antibes, France; Copa Del Ray in Minorca, Spain (August 25-29), Vele d'epoca di Imperia in Italy (September 8-12) and the Regates Royales in Cannes, France (September 22-25).
