Land Rover just unveiled the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible, which is exactly what it sounds like: an SUV convertible. The marque debuted the new model to the world via the above video, which shows the car cruising in the rain before lowering its top, magically causing the rain to stop and the sun to shine. Dramatic, but effective.
Shot in front of the Central Saint Martins in Granary Square, Kings Cross in London, the short clip features a massive image of a rising sun projected on the building’s façade. The team used 20 projectors to create the finished product, which reached a brightness level of 400,000 lumens (which is apparently the same as 40,000 candles). Also in the video are Granary Square’s 1,080 fountain jets that are individually controlled.
“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a symbol of refinement, luxury and creative design. It’s perfectly suited to the urban surroundings of London. The Evoque’s elegant design proportions lend themselves to the creation of a Convertible, and it’s fitting to reveal the vehicle against the backdrop of one of the world’s leading centres for art and design education here in the creative hub of London,” says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer.
The $50k Evoque Convertible can accommodate four passengers, has a spacious trunk and includes a neat ski hatch for hitting the slopes. With a four-cylinder engine that offers 240 hp and a nine-speed automatic transmission, the beefed-up SUV’s top can be dropped in 18 seconds. It will hit the market in Spring 2016.
