Since 1964, gingerbread has been a holiday staple at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. No stranger to luxury offerings, the five-star, five-diamond 102-year-old property perseveres even through a tumultuous 2020. Helmed by Executive Pastry Chef Adam Thomas, the team built an over-the-top gingerbread creation celebrating the re-opening of The Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Railway.
Santa oversees the construction of the massive cog railway car made of gingerbread, sugar, candy, chocolate and cookies. Sculpted chocolate elves are hard at work putting together the sweet creation, one of my favorites is taking a nap under a construction helmet, while a lunch break happens nearby with fellow co-working elves. There is even an elf suspended from the ceiling working on the car.
Back “on track” for a May 2021 opening, the historic railway was opened in 1891. Undergoing a $100 million renovation, the Pikes Peak vistas will once again be seen by cog railcar, taking guests to the 14,115-foot summit.
Check out holiday videos, including a montage celebrating the historic gingerbread tradition and an instructional video on how to make your own cog railway gingerbread here. For rates and reservations to stay at The Broadmoor, visit www.broadmoor.com
