Modeled after a Japanese Zen garden, the winery derives its name from the Japanese word torii, referencing the ornate gates seen at the entrance of most Japanese gardens, and the Scandinavian word mor, meaning earth.
By integrating these two languages, owners Donald Olson, MD, and his wife Margie capture a feeling of unique elegance through the romantic image of a passageway to the earth and all things beautiful. Specializing in Pinot Noir, it is their belief that this varietal, more than any other, best emulates this union of beauty and earth.
Torii Mor Winery has been recognized as agriculturally sustainable. While initially founded in 1993 as a boutique winery, the new solar-array, gravity-flow winery created in 2007 is LEED Gold certified, Oregon Certified Sustainable, and LIVE vineyard and winery certified.
Beginning in the vineyards with careful attentive management and continuing in the cellar with minimal handling, Winemaker Jaques Tardy expresses each unique site in the classic Burgundian way in order to create super-premium wines.
These multiple-award-winning wines have consistently earned more than 90 points and have been tagged Top Choice, One of the Best, and Highly Recommended by Wine Spectator, The Wine Advocate, and Wine Enthusiast.
With flavors of dark berries and dark cherries, earthiness, and spiciness, Torii Mor Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with everything from braised boneless short ribs and herbes de Provence chicken to grilled salmon with hazelnut brown butter to eggplant-and-mushroom pizza.
These versatile wines are notably classic Pinot Noir—rich in texture and structure, carrying a smooth, long, sweet and spicy finish. When guests visit Torii Mor Winery, they discover a passageway to beautiful things.
