Domestic attitude was the inspiration for Silvia Venturini Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection, realized through a series of checkered bathrobes, fuzzy slippers and matching flannel sets. Models came down the shearling-lined runway in elevated loungewear—heavy robes were trimmed in fur, rich wools or layered in leather and shearling.
Fuzzy slippers and bags were adorned with the googly eyeballs and anthropomorphized characteristics of the brand’s previous Monster collections. Jackets came out with stitched patterns that took the shape of faces with mouths or noses added with the use of a zipper. Little, unexpressive monsters peeked out of the top of pockets. It was adorable and totally unnecessary, but with the bright colors and fuzzy textures of the fabric, it worked.
Looking past the oversized structure, wild, furry accessories and funky color palette—all of which were luxurious, but highly impractical—the collection did hold a few wearable pieces. Knitwear turtlenecks, belted overcoats, shearling loafers and suit separates were modern and designed with just a hint of the unexpected to give character to an otherwise simple design.
