Where is the line drawn between fashion and art? The divide between the two can be confusing, but whatever the case, the designs of Joanne Stoker? whether they?re considered fashion or sheer art? are simply stunning.
At just 29 years old, British-born shoe designer Joanne Stoker is quickly gaining acclaim as the next Jimmy Choo by blending Art Deco glamour with avant-garde accents. Already garnering a celebrity following, (Nicki Minaj wore two of Stoker?s styles in her ?Starships? music video) the London-based designer?s collection is attracting global attention.
Many of her designs derive from her travels, including the seaside where she spent her childhood holidays, as evidenced by the architecturally striking lines found in her collections.
While Stoker cites her inspirations as everything from the Russian artist Kandinsky to the New York City skyline, her collection for Spring 2013 draws from beachside boardwalks like Coney Island, as seen through a popsicle-colored palette and candy cane stripes.
Fusing styles of Marie Antoinette’s sass with Zelda Fitzgerald’s pizzazz, the fashion-forward footwear features intricate heel designs with origami-like patterning. The designer also incorporates luxurious materials such as rabbit fur, micro feathers and Swarovski crystals in a bold manner.
With a Master’s Degree in footwear design from the London College of Fashion, Stoker’s background also includes a number of accolades, such as the British Footwear Association Design Award and The Vogue Talents Award. In the UK, she has worked alongside fashion design darling Matthew Williamson and been mentored by the renowned Jimmy Choo. Most recently, she presented at London Fashion Week and also produced a line with popular shoe retailers, Dune.
Currently sold online and through select retailers in Europe and Canada, prices for the spring collection vary from $300-$800.
