Los Angeles weather reports predict an El Nino season will cause the upcoming winter to be a rainy one. Yet the seasonal shift brings the opportunity to venture away from the beach and warm up to a meal at Chef Akasha Richmond’s Sambar in Culver City. Richmond helped launch Culver City’s dining scene with the opening of Akasha in 2008. Now, Sambar finds influence from both Northern and Southern Indian food, receiving rave reviews since opening in the spring of 2015.
Sit along Sambar’s open kitchen for a front row view of Richmond’s team firing up Tandoori treats, street-food style snacks and tear jerking curries. The vast array of chutneys, all made in-house, are particularly unique and delicious. And, we could make a meal out of the menu’s masala spin on the spicy chicken wing.
Resident mixologist Clare Ward’s thoughtful and tasty mixology rounds out the seasonally updated fare. Try the Punjabi Warrior with Lairds Apple Brandy. A recent addition to the cocktail menu, it will keep you toasty on a brisk evening while seated in Sambar’s enclosed patio.
