Indeed, sweet it is. Organic. Sustainable. Local. And fast. Fast food...of the uber-green nature.Since their start in D.C., the company has focused on social responsibility, forming relationships with local farms and emphasizing healthy and wholesome eating. Sweetgreen founders Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman and Nathaniel Ru opened their first salad shop in 2007, just three months after graduating Georgetown University. Initially, sprouting up across the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, now Sweetgreen’s self-proclaimed fast-casual ecosystem arrives in Los Angeles.
Sweetgreen takes their stylishly structured storefronts seriously...along with their customers too. A chipper staff helps get you in and out in an efficient way, which is always good during the lunch-hour, particularly as limited seating and bumping music don’t make it ideal for a business lunch. However, handy take-out bowls and catering options are ideal. Furthermore, salads and bowls carry a caloric count and are under $15, making it a great deal for the area.
The location on West Third just west of Fairfax in West Hollywood, appears as an assembly line filtered through a cornucopia of the California Central Valley. The exposed shelves of plush produce delivered daily, dash any remaining green inhibitions. You want in on that green! And that doesn’t mean protein of the animal type is forbidden. The Rad Thai salad with shrimp was so tasty and filling--great to share. The seasonal Strawberries + Humboldt Fog salad struck many chords, including a plentiful piece of the delightful cheese. The real reason for the “+” sign in the dish's name.
Bread sourced from downtown LA’s Clark Street Bakery and housemade beverages complement Sweetgreen’s menu and the healthy measures the restaurant explicitly embraces. Is it lunchtime, yet?
