Any trip to Barneys New York in Beverly Hills warrants lunch at Freds, a chic fifth level eatery overlooking Los Angeles. After all, spending an afternoon in the the world-class shopping mecca that is Beverly Hills makes us hungry. Freds is formerly Barneys Greengrass, the New York-inspired deli known for their sturgeon. Still serving the smoked fish during brunch, the restaurant has been newly re-designed. Steven Harris Architects transformed Freds amidst the full renovation of Barneys New York Beverly Hills, now celebrating its 20th year.
Freds draws celebrities, fashionistas and LA’s elite power lunch crowd, not only for its plush ambiance, modern art and 2 outdoor terraces, but for chef Mark Strausman’s Italian inspired menu with a California twist. Linguine alle Vongole marries briny clams with a sweet garlic and tomato broth. Shrimp, crab and avocado step up a classic BLT in the Beverly Hills Club Sandwich while the vegan massaged Raw Kale & Vegetable salad is topped with local mushrooms and a delightful blood orange vinaigrette.
Freds, which has locations in New York and Chicago is currently open daily in Beverly Hills for lunch, juice bar and cocktails. Brunch is available during the weekend.
