Bali is a destination that never grows old. For generations, it has held a mystical allure, known as a place to go to find oneself or find inner healing. Offering all that and more, Alila Villas Uluwatu in the southernmost part of Bali Indonesia.
The villas have won a cadre of luxury hotel awards as a result of its fantastic setting, accommodations, dining and a world class spa. The ultra-modern resort creates a striking visual impression, with a color palate that adds to the effect, with white surfaces accented by natural wood and white marble. The property itself is huge and on 30 acres of land, with manicured landscapes and untouched vegetation allowing one to feel immersed in the natural surroundings. Gurgling water features run throughout the property to create a deeper sense of serenity.
The pool might be one of the most beautiful in the world. Endless views of the horizon are only interrupted by the blue sea and billowy white clouds over the vast Indian Ocean. Around it there are gazebos and lounge spaces where sunbathers rotate between their day beds and dips. Nearby is the icon of the property, the exquisitely designed Sunset Cabana, perched on a limestone cliff 200 meters above the sea.
The 65 luxurious pool villas are designed with an open plan to allow guests to seamlessly move between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The pool is the first of many wow factors surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation. There is a rectangular gazebo trellised with rustic reclaimed wood beams which allow mottled light through and uninterrupted sea views. Despite the open concept, the villas are designed with complete privacy, so no need to worry about any pesky tan lines.
Indoors is equally impressive with large sliding doors that let the outdoors in and direct access to the pool. The décor is wonderful with natural tones, a comfy king sized bed and all the modern amenities and electronics you would expect, including on-demand movies, and a library of music. The bathroom is uber sexy as well with an outdoor rain shower in a water garden.
The villas are the perfect place for romantic couples and will tempt guests to never leave. For those who choose to stay in, breakfast is available at your pool where the butler will serve it with minimal intrusion. Each of Alila Villas Uluwatu’s villas are exquisite with the two and three bedrooms providing even larger spaces, amenities, and pool.
The dining experience at Alila is fabulous as well. The Warung serves Balinese traditional dishes on small plates made for sharing. The scene is exciting as the chefs prepare dishes in the open kitchen with the sounds, sights and aromas filling the room. The dishes have just the right combination of exotic flavors without being overly spicy for the western palate. One must-have is the Megibung, which is a series of mouthwatering small plates of minced fish on lemon grass, chicken in spiced coconut milk and Balinese fried duck. Cire is their more formal gourmet restaurant where couples dine by candlelight overlooking the sea. The menu is more international with local dishes as well.
As we mentioned earlier, the Alila Villas Uluwatu has a world class spa facility, offering a full range of Asian and Western treatments. There’s nothing like having a Balinese spa treatment in Bali. We chose a treatment that uses pressure points from forearms and elbows to penetrate deep into muscles, combined with the Swedish style of long, smooth strokes. To burn off a few calories or to get the mind in a good place, the spa also offers complementary yoga and meditation classes each day.
There’s is a lot to do in the area from checking out the traditional dance performances at Uluwatu Temple, taking in a sunset at one of the renowned local bars or exploring one of the area’s acclaimed white sand beaches. A bespoke experience not to be missed though, is the culinary tour with the resort’s chef. The journey takes you on a guided tour of the local produce and seafood markets, far from the posh resorts; this is how locals live. After collecting the ingredients, the chef returns to the Warung restaurant to prepare a local dish for guests while they watch and even get involved.
The Alila experience is really about creating the quintessential holiday experience. This exclusive group of hotels known for their spas, personalized service, and integrating luxury accommodation with authentic local experiences. The Alila Villas Uluwatu is the perfect exotic vacation to rekindle romance or to find yourself while getting away from it all.
