Villa was extensively linked with a move to the Emirates in January, with Arsene Wenger under pressure to reinforce his struggling squad, but the Gunners failed to conclude a deal for Spain's all-time leading goalscorer.
The 31-year-old, who returned from almost a year out with a broken shinbone in August, has struggled to nail down a regular place in the Barca team and has started just nine of their 25 La Liga matches so far this season.
Arsenal are expected to renew their interest in Villa in the summer, with Wenger expected to be handed a £70million transfer kitty.
