With Miami Spa Month in full swing, we thought it’d be helpful to get a breakdown on some of the spa treatments available at most facilities. Once you learn how to get the best out of your spa day, look into pairing treatments together to put your best bod forward at the end of your session. Here's some insight on the various therapies you can do:
Body Scrubs
One of the best things you can do to restore silkiness to your skin is to book a body scrub treatment. Done with rough materials such as coffee grounds, sugar or salt, the scrubs are mixed with essential oils and massage oils before being applied and used as an exfoliant on the body. These are usually done in a wet room or on a wet table where you can either be rinsed off or hop in the shower to remove the scrub. If you’re getting a massage, opt for doing the scrub first because it stimulates the body while the massage relaxes.
Body Wraps
Helping rid the body of toxins through metabolic stimulation, today’s body wraps use rich lotions, seaweed, clay, mud, shea butter or algae that is slathered over your body before being wrapped under plastic, towels, mylar or sheets. While your body remains wrapped, you’ll either be left alone to relax or a therapist will perform a scalp massage until your time (around 20 minutes) is up. Finally, after rinsing off (sometimes in a special Vichy shower), you’ll dry off and then a lotion gets applied to further moisturize your new skin.
Hot Stone Massages
The most popular type of massage technique is the Swedish which is basically the standard option where a masseuse rubs oils on you and works your whole body. For a different experience, consider a Hot Stone Massage. The stones are placed on various body points to provide relief from pain associated with fibromyalgia, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome; reduce chronic tension and stress; and decreases muscle spasms among other benefits.
Antioxidant Facials
Most already know that incorporating antioxidants into your diet can be beneficial to your health. But they can also help boost your skin and protect it from the damaging effects of the sun. While sunscreens shield from the outside, antioxidants can defend from the inside. When looking to book a facial, consider a Vitamin C therapy which is in the form of a serum or mask that is used to make dull skin look firmer and more radiant.
Microdermabrasion
One of the most effective and easiest anti-aging treatments to consider is Microdermabrasion which helps to smooth coarsely textured skin, reduces superficial hyper-pigmentation and softens fine lines and wrinkles among other benefits. Essentially, microderm is super-exfoliation done by using an expensive machine to remove dead skin cells from your face and/or your body. Even people with sensitive skin can get the therapy because the device can be adjusted to your skin condition.
