With Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving on the horizon, resorts and hotels everywhere are gearing up for the holidays. Seasonal events, activities for families, and special room rates are cropping up at resorts across the country, from gingerbread-making and train rides to gourmet hot chocolate bars and complimentary elfin tuck-ins. And while you may not associate wintery trademarks, such as hot chocolate and snow flurries with Arizona, the W Scottsdale isn’t letting toastier weather stop guests from getting in the holiday spirit.
Starting from November 16 through January 6, the W Scottsdale will open Scottsdale’s only hybrid skating rink, CHILL. The 2,100 square-foot skating rink will be transformed from the WET pool deck, and will feature a bevy of sparkling holiday lights, decorated poolside-cabanas, and live skating performances, accompanied by music, each Saturday at 10 pm. The “hybrid” rink is eco-friendly, designed using synthetic ice that does not require additional electrical generation to keep it frozen. The material, which feels around 15% slower than skating on real ice, gives skaters the sensation of gliding over a frozen pond.
In the true spirit of the holidays, CHILL will be open to both W Scottsdale guests and the public alike. Because it is sponsored by Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, kids five years and older as well as adults can rent a pair of skates for just $10 and get to perfecting their figure-eights. However, W Scottsdale guests who take part in the Chill Out room package can enjoy unlimited skate rentals throughout the duration of CHILLS opening. So even if you have to leave your scarves at home, you may just forget your cutting “ice” in the middle of a desert.
