One thing we’ve been saying for awhile now, is that San Diego needs a Ritz-Carlton. Our beautiful city is a prime location for the luxury brand. Well, this week, we came across Cisterra Developments’ current project list which includes a new Ritz at 7th and Market downtown.
When we reached out to the brand, they could not confirm the project. So for now, this is all hearsay, but if it is true, hurray! Being designed as a multi-use development, the area will be home to a 184-room Ritz and 68 Ritz-branded condos as well as a number of restaurants, separate housing units, office spaces and a 40,000-square-foot grocery store. While no information is given about the grocer, from the renderings, it sure does look like a Whole Foods (just saying).
Cisterra’s site states, “The project as planned will be a landmark vertically integrated mixed-use development, worthy of the most discriminating tenants and residents. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that we have commitments from Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, a world- class gourmet grocer and pre-leasing interest from two large office tenants to locate within the project.”
As of now, the tower will overlook Petco Park, becoming one of only two other condominiums in the neighborhood with those prime views. It will also include floor-to-ceiling glass walls and beautifully-landscaped plazas boasting plants and a water feature. That’s about all we know at this point. But we’ll tell you one thing we’re certain of, if a Ritz is indeed opening, we’ll be first in line to book a room.
