When a luxury hotel is compared to French legend Serge Gainsbourg, you expect something a little sexy and risqué, and that is exactly what designer Vincent Darré promises for the new Hôtel Montana. Found in Paris, the hotel takes over the seven floors above the popular jazz club La Montana, which has been a staple for Parisian artists and heavyweights since the 1950s. Saving the first floor for a restaurant, all of the walls were knocked down on the above levels to create six full-floor suites, each boasting a completely different theme and vibe.
The Blanc Graffiti suite uses Jean Cocteau as inspiration, with whimsical illustrations adorning the walls and Pierre Frey-upholstered furniture picturing woodland animals. Braque and Picasso are represented in Bleu Acide, where black walls contrast with vibrant blue, hand-painted panels by Atelier Poulaillon and surrealist furnishings. The Gris Paris suite takes from artist Christian Berard and is definitely more muted in comparison, with a soft color palate and minimalist furnishings adorned with illustrations by the French artist Pierre Le Tan. Found on the top floor is the Mirror D’Argent suite, which has its own private terrace and was inspired by Pierre Cardin.
As different as each suite is, they all share the same uniform bathroom design. Completely covered in sleek black tiles, the bathrooms don’t have any windows and according to The New York Times, Darré intended for them to be “a little naughty,’ like Gainsbourg himself.
The boutique hotel has an elevator that will take you from your room down to the La Gauche Caviar restaurant on the first floor, the street-level bar or the nightclub below. With a Russian-inspired menu, La Gauche Caviar has library-inspired wallpaper and décor that mimics the suites above. According to the official site, this is where one should go to "feed on heart of Salmon or Petrossian Caviar the Russian way, off the back of ones hand, in a hushed atmosphere evoking the library of a Germanopratin intellectual.”
Hôtel Montana hasn't revealed price points just yet.
