Over 160 exhibitors from 35 countries around the world are coming together for the 18th edition of Paris Photo, an annual photography art fair that takes place at the Grand Palais every fall. This year Giorgio Armani, an official sponsor of the event since 2011, will be showcasing images with a water theme for the fifth year in a row. Entitled Acqua #5, the collection does not limit its interpretation of water so that artists may feel free to represent the element as they see fit. The Italian designer has personally curated photos for the exhibition from Debra Bloomfield, Graciela Sacco, Facundo de Zuviria, Rong Rong & Inri, Joann Verburg, Trent Parke, Alison Rossiter and Joel Meyerovitz.
“I think what you have in the room is very representative of the richness and the diversity of the medium, because you have different formats and different ways of playing with [photography],” said Julien Frydman, director of Paris Photo. While Armani has a clear passion for all things water—his collections and fragrances are often reflective of the element and his philanthropic endeavors aim to provide drinking water to underprivileged global communities—his contributions to the artistic community have been just as passionate. “Thanks to the support of Mr. Armani, we have been able to invite important and major institutions to show their recent acquisitions,” added Frydman. “I think it creates an understanding of the diversity of ways of collecting photography.”
Paris Photo is open from November 13-16 and entry is priced at €30 (approx. USD $37) a day.
