From Screen to Table, Netflix opened it's first culinary space, NETFLIX BITES in Los Angeles. It's the ultimate foodie destination where fans of Netflix's food shows get to taste some of the dishes that their favorite chefs have prepared on camera. Some of the chef's have appeared on 'Chef's Table', the longest-running nonfiction series on Netflix. Others are champions on 'Iron Chef' and 'Is It Cake?'
Netflix Bites is a limited-time pop-up offering a lengthy menu of items. Beloved celebrity chef Curtis Stone collaborated with other Netflix chefs including Dominique Crenn from Chef’s Table and Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, Rodney Scott of Chef’s Table: BBQ, Ming Tsai from Iron Chef: Quest fo r an Iron Legend, Ann Kim of Chef's Table: Pizza, Nadiya Hussain from Nadiya Bakes, Jacques Torres from Nailed It!, and Andrew Zimmern of Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. Together they team up to create an exclusive tasting menu for a one-of-a-kind restaurant experience.
Australian-born Curtis Stone is the owner of two Michelin-starred restaurants in Los Angeles - Gwen and Maude. This Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend champion is a Master of Modern American Cuisine.
'Bringing my love of food to people across the world is one of the biggest thrills of my life but this screen-to-table experience of giving fans a taste of what happens on camera is just awesome. The talented chefs and mixologists assembled means there is something for everyone, and I’m wildly excited that my team at Curtis Stone Events is involved in bringing NETFLIX BITES to life,” said Stone.
Curtis Stone features his refreshing summer fresh chilled tomato and grilled watermelon consomme soup. It's on the Small Bites section of the menu, and arrives in a bowl with a small carafe. A server pours the clear tomato consomme into a bowl right before diner's eyes. It's visually spectacular as bobbing tiny compressed fruit balls lay to rest on the bottom of the bowl.
Other Curtis Stone menu items include his whole Dungeness crab curry with finger limes, crispy shallots and garlic. It was a dish featured on Iron Chef.
Chef Andrew Zimmern makes a crispy Japanese Fried Chicken with a togarashi aioli and squeeze of lemon. This is ideal as a starter to share around the table.
His 'My Grandmother's Meatloaf' it's served on mashed potatoes with a pour of savory beef gravy. This pure comfort with every bite Chef Andrew Zimmern menu item is exclusive at this pop-up.
“Netflix is already a destination for beloved food programming, from documentaries to competition shows,' said Josh Simon, VP, of Consumer Products. 'From episode to entrée, with NETFLIX BITES we are creating an in-person experience where fans can immerse themselves in their favorite food shows. We are excited to collaborate with these incredible chefs who will bring this vision to life and showcase an array of their delicious menus.'
They made a NETFLIX BITES pizza oven just for one of their stars on Chef's Table: Pizza - Chef Ann Kim.
Her Lady Zaza pizza is one of the most ordered dishes. This James Beard winner owns Pizzeria Lola, Hello Pizza, Young Joni (James Beard Award winner in 2019), and Sooki & Mimi.
She makes her own kimchi for her Lady Zaza pizza. Kimchi is Korean comfort food. Chef Ann makes her grandmother's and mother's kimchi recipes. In Chef's Table: Pizza, Chef Ann tells viewers 'Making kimchi is about smell and taste.' Her mother taught her what tastes good. Some Americans think kimchi is stinky, but when she tops her Lady Zaza pizza with kimchi, the funkiness is baked out into a beautiful sweetness. 'Pizza is a gateway to introduce flavors to people who may resistant to try it. If it's on a pizza, you just trust it,'
When her family moved to America, 'there was very little representation of what an Asian woman can be,' said Chef Ann. 'I'm not wired like that.' She fought societal barriers and did it her way. 'If you give people the freedom to be themselves, some amazing things can happen,' said Chef Ann.
Biting into a slice of Chef Ann's Lady Zaza the tomato sauce isn't overpowering and her kimchi is sweet. The savory Sakura pork, sliced scallions and a generous sprinkling of sesame provide a wonderful balance of flavors. What makes this pizza extra special is her dough. To Chef Ann, making pizza dough is like making kimchi. It's all about using your hands and tasting, smelling and patiently letting it rest to bring out beautiful flavor profiles and textures.
Learning to be herself, she makes pizzas with ingredients that she likes. Making pickles with garlic and Thai chilis, Chef Ann decided to make a pizza that is topped with her delicious pickles. Her famous 'Minnesota Pickle Pie' is on the NETFLIX BITES menu. The slightly scorched baked dough is topped with smoked onions, slices of her fermented pickles, chili flakes, ranch and dill. When it comes out of the pizza oven it is topped with crispy kettle chips. The flavor profile brings a huge smile to diners who order this pizza.
She also offers a BBQ short rib pizza on the menu. It arrives piping hot with a heaping of arugula leaves on top of melted mozzarella cheese and a sprinkling of chili vinaigrette. It's savory, earthy and has a touch of heat with each bite.
Her Summer tomato pie featured on the menu is topped with sweet sungold tomatoes, melted mozzarella cheese, pecorino romano, garlic, basil and honey.
Chef Ann's pizzas and restaurants are a love letter to her parents and family. One can taste that love at NETFLIX BITES.
To top it all off, Netflix Drink Masters fan-favorite mixologists including Frankie Solarik, Julie Reiner, LP O'Brien and Kate Gerwin craft custom cocktails for the drink menu. Kate Gerwin's 'Happy Little Accidents' is a tropical drink with salted dried plum crystals on the side to offer a slight tingle on ones lips.
LP O'Brien's 'Everything But The Alley Cat' is very thick and creamy. It's made with Mount Gay Dark Rum, homemade coconut guava elixir, toasted rice orgeat, Carnation milk, fresh lime juice and xantham gum. It's served with a red envelope that has caramelized plantain inside as a garnish.
Julie Reiner's Cornbread Old Fashioned is a winner for those who like big ice cubes and a pour of Calle 23 Reposado Tequila and Elijah Craig bourbon.
NETFLIX BITES at Short Stories Hotel has tables available for a limited time from 5-10 p.m., seven days a week. On Saturdays & Sundays, the pop-up is also offering a brunch menu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Book a reservation at www.NETFLIXBITES.com and follow @netflixbites on Instagram.
