For decades, The Commodore of Hollywood has been known as one of Hollywood’s residential buildings deeply rooted in the city’s burgeoning entertainment industry. Built in the 1920s as a Mediterranean revival style apartment-hotel, the iconic building emerged during the area’s Golden Age near the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine. Its premier location made it home to countless old-Hollywood celebrities as they launched their careers and would later become legendary entertainment figures including actors who appeared in legendary films like the original A Star is Born, Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz. Over the last several decades, countless Hollywood stars and musicians were known to frequent The Commodore of Hollywood, including rock band KISS, who were also tenants for some time.
Recently, Los Angeles-based developer Wilshire Skyline completed a nearly $10 million renovation of the now-historical landmark and reimagined the building completely while maintaining its character and famous charm. Relaunching as The Commodore of Hollywood of Wilshire Skyline, the historic building is poised to attract a broad range of LA visitors and residents alike, with its 73 pet-friendly, design-centric residences and flexible leases. Available for a nightly rate or from $2,000 to $5,000 a month, studios and one-bedroom units feature best-in-class amenities and top-tier concierge services, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, housekeeping services, a private dog park and more. LA locals and travelers can now experience one of the city’s only historical landmarks being artistically preserved and restored for the new era of creatives and jet-setters.
Award-winning architect Jonathan Watts of KFA Architects and acclaimed interior designer Christos Prevezanos of Studio Preveza helped thoughtfully preserve The Commodore’s rich roots while elevating the aesthetics and modernizing its sensibilities. To pay homage to its rich history, the team highlighted the elements that make The Commodore of Hollywood unique, including the entryway’s ornate Mediterranean columns and the lobby’s original terracotta marble floors.
Located at 1830 N Cherokee Avenue, The Commodore of Hollywood by Wilshire Skyline is within walking distance to Hollywood's famed attractions including Vine Street, Hollywood Boulevard, Musso & Frank Grill, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Runyon Canyon and more. With a Walk Score of 96 and proximity to the Metro and 101 Freeway, its centralized location provides easy access to explore the greater Los Angeles region.
