The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has approved plans to develop the US’s first terminal exclusively for celebrities. The new terminal will be available for the world’s rich and famous including movie stars, diplomats, professional athletes, CEOs and rest of the world’s one percent. The proposed terminal was just approved this week, but estimates suggest that it will begin operations within a temporary facility in six months.
The new 43,750-square-foot terminal will offer A-listers exclusive lounges, separate security and border checkpoints, dedicated catering, indoor drop-off points, and direct access to and from their planes. The terminal, which will be run and funded by the private security firm Gavin de Becker and Associates, will cost travelers approximately $1,800 per trip and is estimated to bring the airport an additional revenue of $3.7 million within the first year.
Officials hope that the new terminal will allow for less traffic and a more streamlined experience without the added paparazzi and fans that can often crowd the gates. Other airports in Dubai, Amsterdam, Paris, London and Moscow have similar facilities and have met with great success. Depending on the outcome of this project, similar plans may be implemented in San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Miami.
