On October 15, Project Ethos stepped up to the plate to play with the big boys of L.A. Fashion Week as they put on a fashion showcase of both local and international talents in fashion, music and art at Avalon Hollywood from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Presented by Scion and hosted by Kristian Weathers, correspondent for Fashion News Live, the affair brought together 1,500 attendees with the help of additional partners Aids Healthcare Foundation, French Tuesdays, Jin & Quinn, Sebastian Professional, Midori, Lab Art, The Fashion Law Group, and TNT Agency.
Taking over the runway for the first show was a grunge mix of rockabilly-chic pieces, statement metalware and couture gowns. Behind the creative collections were Ermelinda Manos Designs, Marialia, and jewelry from Kristen Dorsey Designs paired with Lauren Stucky. Strutting their stuff for the audience, ‘tween models Victoria Strauss and Lauren Suthers walk the runway for Tumbler & Tipsy by Michael Kuluva, presented by Aids Healthcare Foundation and Out of the Closet Thrift Stores. Turning the models’ hair into theatrical masterpieces was hair care partner Sebastian Professional with head sytlists presenting their “EvoTech” collection. Closing out the show was a finale walk from reality star Josie Stevens.
Designers Alexander Vinash, Krammer & Stoudt, CA by vitamin A, and NBC’s Fashion Star favorite GLAUDI by Johana Hernandez took on the second show with their Spring collections. Rollasole, who’s roll-up design allows owners to easily carry an emergency pair with them wherever they go, showcased a sole-saving vending machine in the lobby. Toted as being great for spontaneous adventures, their flats come with a bag to carry your discarded heels home in.
Music throughout the evening was complements of Midori melon liqueur with a live performance by jazz artist Matt Von Rodrick. During his swinging melodies and hard-hitting rhythms, Miguel Big, Leah Devora, Brittany Thurston, Michael “Malafiura” Fontana, Chelsea Knight, C. Harvey Smith and Cutter Cutshaw created visual installations to pair with the music.
Exhibits were also available from Lab Art artists Mar (aka This Means Mar), Annie Preece and LeBa. Closing out the evening was L.A.-based rock band YACHT and an encore fashion show by Alex Vinash and Tumbler and Tipsy. Like any good party, the beats kept going into the early morning hours with DJ sets by DJ Stubbs and DJCJ.
