Like any good republic, West Hollywood’s Tortilla Republic avoids consolidation in any one area of power; quality that is, keeping it dispersed across the menu, they’ve recently expanded to serve brunch. Our follow-up on this West Hollywood up-and-comer’s modern Mexican cuisine, finds us happily seated again on the sunny street-facing patio. Brunch, served Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm offers an array of mid-morning meal staples infused by their signature twist on Mexican flavors along with a new cocktail menu.
A smoky take on the traditional Bloody, the Mezcal Mary, gets a kick from habanero-infused Mezcal and a black Hawaiian lava salt garnish...muy caliente! A spicy Michelada, prickly pear bellini and bottomless mimosas for $17 round out TR’s brunch libations. The broad menu presenting tasty choices from omelettes to tacos to burgers makes it hard for the hungry to choose. Therefore, may we suggest the plentiful Relleno Poblano bathing in a citrus-cilantro sauce and stuffed with creamy jack cheese scrambled eggs and spiced Mexican rice. We were not disappointed by TR’s delicious Seared Ahi and Sweet Potato Hash, suggested by our friendly server, it arrived beneath perfectly poached eggs, caramelized onion and earthy micro greens.

The Fresh Corn and Blueberry griddle cakes introduce a savory spin on the pancake, so flavorful, hardly a drizzle of maple syrup was needed. Lastly, for a lighter yet still boldly flavored brunch item, try Shrimp Zarandeado Salad. Mixed greens, sweet melon, jicama and roasted almonds create a fresh bed for zesty perfectly grilled tiger shrimp made scrumptious by a subtly sweet Kiwi vinaigrette. Visiting, living or owning a restaurant in the West Hollywood area requires certain musts, and brunch is one of them...Tortilla Republic marks the spot.
