As luxury fashion sweeped the Big Apple in the flurry of New York Fashion Week, Angelenos celebrated style in their own way—Hollywood style! Macy’s Passport Presents, Glamorama, The British Invasion: The Music Then. The Fashion Now! was THE fete drawing celebs and celebrating fashion while honoring a worthy cause. To date, Macy's Glamorama raised over $41 million dollars in four U.S. cities. Marking its 30th year, they continue this noble fundraising on behalf of its charitable partners, including organizations devoted to children’s cancer and illness and support of the HIV and AIDS community.
Actress and AIDS activist, Sharon Stone made the evening’s introductions, brightening the event with her glowing smile, personality and a gold vintage Valentino. Initially following the introduction, a touching video tribute to AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food preceded the main fashion Glamorama show and concert, a 60-minute theatrical experience. Choreographed by Myron Johnson, the event weaves runway fashion with dance, the latest in technology and live performances by chart topping pop stars, Robin Thicke and Karmin. With grandeur and creativity, Glamorama truly displays the entertainment side of Macy’s efforts to give back to the community.
Of course, the focus pinpointed on fashion, showcasing what Macy’s will stock for fall and winter. The evening’s designs promise layering, short shift dresses, long overcoats, jewel tones and bold patterning. Sponsors included Tommy Hilfiger, W118 by Walter Baker, Tallia Orange, bar III, Calvin Klein, Rachel by Rachel Roy, and Diesel. Celebrity clothing lines also made appearances. Exuding style and sophistication, bolstered by over $525 million in US retail sales, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lifestyle brand set the pace with an introduction of his striking line of men’s wear and tailored power suits.
Following suit in a girly-punk-rock campaign, Madonna and daughter Lola’s exclusive line for Macy’s, Material Girl, features the face of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger’s daughter, Georgia May.
