The newest property to hit the South Bank is the Mondrian London at Sea Containers, a 359-room luxury property from the Morgans Hotel Group. Built in the historic Sea Containers building, British designer Tom Dixon captured the culture and history of the area, drawing on the “golden age of transatlantic travel” for inspiration.
The beauty of the original building is translated from exterior architecture to in-suite aesthetics through 1920’s cruise ship-inspired décor and a copper “hull” that runs from the outside of the building, through the lobby and onto the river side of the property.
Using cutting-edge design and functionality, the guestrooms mix together a post-modern ‘80s feel with the classic elegance of the ‘20s. All rooms come with marble bathrooms, bespoke furniture and MALIN+GOETZ amenities. Each space also includes Dixon’s signature wingback chair and handcrafted drip wall paintings. Among the suites, the River View Balcony option is positioned above the Thames and offers unparalleled views from wall-to-wall windows.
Guests looking to relax will enjoy the Agua Bathhouse & Spa, a state-of-the-art facility that offers treatments, products, and, due to open floor plans, “a distinct social hub for guests.” Multiple bar spaces can be found throughout the property including Dandelyan and Rumpus Room, and those looking for a bite to eat will want to try the locally-sourced Sea Containers Restaurant.
A 56-seat theater will also be available for new releases, film screenings, press junkets, fashion shows, meeting and events. Both the river and cityscape can be seen from the glass-enclosed rooftop bar Rumpas Room, with panoramic views of nearby landmarks including Royal Festival Hall, the Globe Theatre and the London Eye. Rates begin at around USD $352.
