Ever since Amtrak did away with service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the 1990s, you’ve had to either fly or drive to get between the two cities. While they’re only 270 miles apart from each other, the distance can sometimes feel like a lifetime—especially if you’re stuck in traffic. But if X Train’s plans come to fruition (and that’s a big if), you may be able to visit Sin City via train.
The company posted an update to their Facebook page on August 8, claiming that after five years of talking about it, they’re finally ready to get their retro Hiawatha Milwaukee Road train on the rails. Traveling between the Fullerton Transportation Center in Orange County and Downtown Las Vegas, the train will be kicking service off with a special New Year’s Eve inaugural run. In terms of what will make it so special, they haven’t said yet.
With over 500 seats (150 of which will be First Class and VIP), X Train won’t be available on a daily basis, but it will be for special events and private charters. When browsing their Facebook page, it seems obvious that X Train still has a lot of details to straighten out (like what kind of food they’ll serve), but they appear very responsive to suggestions. Tickets are projected to start at $99 each way and are supposedly going on sale at some point this month.
