Holding the only comprehensive Warhol collection in the United States, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) in Las Vegas has announced an extension for its exhibit, “Warhol Out West,” until January 2, 2014. Beginning August 1, BGFA will add works from the Warhol’s 1985 advertisement series which include “Mobil,” “Life Savers,” “Blackglama (Judy Garland)” and “Volkswagen.”
“Since its opening in February, ‘Warhol Out West’ has welcomed visitors from around the world and across all generations,” said Tarissa Tiberti, executive director of BGFA. “We’ve had an incredibly positive response and want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to see this unique collection, which spans Warhol’s multifaceted career.”
The collection, organized in partnership with The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, is the artist’s depiction of all things Western. Noted as one of the most influential Pop artists in the visual art movement, Warhol’s depiction of celebrities, advertisements, comic books and brand products creatively illustrate the realm of popular culture. Warhol’s 1960s Pop paintings of celebrities and consumer products are part of the exhibit along with the memorable “Double Elvis” painting and “Cowboys and Indians” series. With 56 pieces, the collection showcases paintings, sculptures, photographs, screen prints and wallpaper.
BGFA’s elegant gallery is located at the heart of the resort and has been featuring artworks and objects drawn from internationally acclaimed museums and private collections since its opening in 1998. Most notable are: “Claude Monet: Impressions of Light,” “Figuratively Speaking: A Survey of the Human Form,” “Classic Contemporary: Lichtenstein, Warhol and Friends,” “American Modernism,” “The Impressionist Landscape: From Corot to Van Gogh,” “Fabergé: Treasures from the Kremlin” and “Picasso Ceramics.”
Located in Warhol’s birthplace, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Andy Warhol Museum is one of the world’s most complete single-artist museums. One of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, the Warhol’s traveling exhibitions program allows Warhol’s artwork to be loaned out to museums around the world. Today, his work has been seen by over nine million people in 36 countries.
General admission tickets for BGFA’s exhibit are $16 or $13 for Nevada residents or seniors 65 and older. Students, teachers and military with valid ID are $11. Complimentary docent tours are available daily at 2 p.m.; audio tours are also included in each ticket price. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
