Award-winning celebrity chef, restaurateur, and author Michael Mina explores a whimsical approach to American pub fare at his newly opened PUB 1842 inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand. The casual tavern-style eatery, opened June 18 with an array of classic bar favorites and an extensive selection of beers and cocktails. Like any destination in Vegas, the entertainment is lively and spirited with an area for darts amidst an energetic soundtrack setting the tone.
MGM Grand President and COO Scott Sibella hopes to see PUB 1842 become a favorite hangout spot for its guests. “I enjoy working in the realm of fine dining, of course, but I wanted to explore a dining option that focuses on great memories in addition to high-quality food and service. I want PUB 1842 to be a place where guests want to linger long after they have finished their meal to enjoy a few beers, play some games and maybe make new friends,” said Chef Mina.
Located in an expansive space, the high-energy bar overlooks The District at MGM Grand and is outfitted with elevated dining booths, wooden bar stools and a keg room. On its walls, vintage print wallpaper and plaid upholstery pair nicely against the stone mosaic floors and butcher block tables exuding a warm and welcoming environment.
Named after the year modern Pilsner beer was invented, the new restaurant displays a vast selection of beers and features 24 taps. PUB 1842 also includes a wide range of American and international brews by the can or bottle. For those who love testing out new brews, the pub will allow guests to order beer flights to try some of the over 60 ales, Pilsners, stouts and lagers. With a twist on classic cocktails and a focus on Fizzy Lifting Drinks (individually bottled and carbonated cocktails), masterful mixologists have crafted a unique offering of drinks. Some of the standouts are the Soda Popinski, a fizzy lifting drink which boasts a twist on the standard Moscow Mule; and the signature Chupacabra, a pineapple and Serrano chili-infused tequila based cocktail.
Of course, no pub would be complete without a list of burgers on its menu. Chef Mina has made sure to not only provide a variety of options, but has created whimsical offerings befitting the restaurant's concept. Burgers like The Peanut Butter Crunch Burger with bacon jam, potato chips and pimento cheese may at first surprise guests but we’ll bet it’s a burger worth tasting. Before digging in, order up the Crab Louis Deviled Eggs or the Lobster Corn Dogs for another unique combination of flavors. In all, the menu features everything from wood-fired steaks to farm to table salads, sandwiches and hearty entrées. This new laid-back eatery could be just the thing to complement Chef Mina's collection of fine dining restaurants, adding variety and opening up his cuisine to a broader audience.
