You wouldn’t necessarily know it from its exterior, but Hutton Hotel in Nashville has a unique and fun character. Situated in Midtown, the four-star boutique property is fresh and chic, boasting contemporary designs and bright décor inside.
Using reclaimed wood and showcasing bamboo-paneled walls, Hutton’s lobby is a collage of varying shapes and warm color palettes paired together with modern furniture. For check-in, guests are escorted to one of two small work desks instead of the standard hotel counters. This more laid-back approach seems to be a common trend among boutique hotels these days, a move from formal interactions to more personal ones.
With only 247 rooms and 52 suites, the hotel is much more quaint than its larger neighboring downtown properties (Omni, The Hermitage, Hilton). Standard guestrooms are pretty small, so consider one of their suites or penthouse apartments.
The one-bedroom King Suites are colored in coffee and crimson shades, offering floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area, two 42” LCD HDTVs and granite bathrooms with Molton Brown full-sized bath products. Business travelers have access to a large work desk and all guests are afforded complimentary Wi-Fi. While your room features a coffeemaker, there is also a complimentary Nespresso machine located on each floor with teas, coffee and to-go cups.
Hutton is also an eco-conscious hotel. The repurposed building has been a landmark since the ‘70s and the property was recognized by the Tennessee Hospitality Association for Green Initiatives. In guestrooms, card readers disable room lighting when guests exit and virtually all lights within the hotel are LED or fluorescent bulbs.
If you’re traveling with your pet, Hutton is considered one of Nashville’s best pet-friendly hotels. Their Happy Tails Pet Program ensures that your furry companions are given the same love and care as you are. Pets are offered an in-room menu of healthy, organic snacks, bedding, food and water bowls, a complimentary Hutton treat and a dedicated Critter Concierge.
While the hotel is not within walking distance of many of the city’s attractions, the property does provide complimentary shuttle service (within a three-mile radius) in a 2014 Tesla Model S hybrid. This is useful considering three miles will get you to plenty of great destinations. Yet, when it comes to dining, there’s no need to leave since Hutton boasts the award-winning, full-service New American restaurant 1808 Grille. Awarded a Forbes Four-Star rating in 2014, the eatery blends traditional Southern cuisine with international flavors under the supervision of Executive Chef Charles Phillips. The farm-to-table fare is accented by dark woods, earthy tones, and cushioned seats and booths that create a very relaxed setting.
Less of a family-friendly property, Hutton Hotel is much more suited for adults, or business travelers looking to get some work done. The modern property is also just a fun choice for those who prefer the individuality of independent hotels to big chain brands. Rooms begin at around $259 per night on the weekdays and suites start at around $319.
