The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, NJ will host a Neil Young & Crazy Horse concert benefitting Hurricane Sandy victims. The Borgata will be the band’s last stop before they head to Australia and New Zealand. When asked by Spinner.com why he chose to do his own benefit, rather than participate in the December 12th celebrity-overrun event at Madison Square Garden, Young answered “The idea is to raise money.” So, in the effort to spread the fundraising efforts, he will not be returning to the Garden that night; at least not to perform alongside fellow musical legends Chris Martin, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and Eddie Vedder, but will instead be playing a benefit in another area effected by the superstorm.
Well known for his philanthropic efforts, Young stated that he “couldn't see coming back here and just playing …business as usual.” It would indeed be difficult to ignore the disaster, as the venue itself, the Borgata Atlantic City, sustained financial damage in the aftermath. “A Special Evening With Neil Young & Crazy Horse,” will be December 6th, with tickets going on sale Friday for $75 or $150. Tickets will be general admission only, and all of the proceeds will go to the American Red cross’s relief fund.
