Jun 22, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichWhen it comes to commenting on the current state of rock 'n’ roll, there’s really no band more qualified than The Doobie Brothers. They helped create the now-iconic California sound of the '70s, after all. Since first starting up back in 1970, the American rock group has sold over 40 million records and have gone through some incredibly distinct sounds. ... Read More |
Jun 16, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichThe Creators Project have reminded us all, in the cutest way possible, that art is truly in the eye of the beholder. For the first Kids Critique episode, the project took a group of kids to see Yayoi Kusama’s newest show entitled Give Me Love at the David Zwirner gallery in New York. Without any preconceptions of what “good” art is, the kids responded naturally to the Japanese artist’s use of bold psychedelic colors and fun interactive installations. ... Read More |
Jun 15, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichJohn Lennon once said that Yoko Ono was “the world's most famous unknown artist: everybody knows her name, but nobody knows what she does.” Considering people still refer to her in relation to Lennon and The Beatles, we have to agree with him. ... Jun 4, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichSummertime in Milan just got a little nicer with the opening of ME Milan Il Duca, the very first Italian luxury hotel from ME by Meliá. Not only does it have a prime location in the Piazza della Repubblica shopping area—which is just a little north of the city’s design district Brera—the hotel was also designed by the renowned late architect, Aldo Rossi, and has interiors by Mortini’s Studio. ... May 19, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichStories popularized by Disney have always been trendy, but in recent years they have taken hold of the public due to a slew of Hollywood adaptations and remakes. Television has Once Upon a Time, while the big screen has seen way too many to list, with Cinderella and Into the Woods (okay, so this is a musical in of itself, but people are most familiar with some of the characters thanks to Walt) being the most recent. ... May 14, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichSome of us desperately wish that we could hire Wes Anderson to be the art director of our lives, and while that (probably) won’t happen, now there’s a new diner where we can pretend we’re actually in one of his movies. The filmmaker took to Milan’s Fondazione Prada to design a kitschy café called Bar Luce that can be found in the fashion brand’s new art and culture complex. ... Read More |
May 13, 2015 | Contributor: Djani SchaferWhile Drake wasn’t listed in our recent post on the top 10 Hollywood art collectors (although, aside from his amazing role in Degrassi, we’re not sure the rapper actually counts as “Hollywood” anyway), it seems he definitely has ties to the art world. ... May 12, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichFinding the perfect venue is probably the most difficult part about getting married, because you can’t truly gauge your space and needed décor until you find the perfect location. ... Read More |
May 7, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichEx Machina is one of those films that will completely blindside you, and not in the ways you may think. I struggled with whether or not this interview with star Alicia Vikander should be kept 100 percent spoiler-free—since the less you know about this science fiction thriller before seeing it, the better—and ultimately opted to omit the details regarding its ending. ... May 4, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichWhile celebrities love collecting art, some are just better at it than others. Last week Wealth-X released a list of Hollywood’s top 10 art collectors, with the top four dominated by film producers, directors and studio executives, and the likes of Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio following after. ... Apr 30, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichPop art may have first appeared in the mid-1950s in Britain, but Pittsburgh-born Andy Warhol is the name that has become the most synonymous with the movement. He’s basically the definition of, “if you build it, they will come,” when it comes to the art world. Because if a gallery or museum displays or sells his work, people will flock to it. ... Apr 30, 2015 | Contributor: Vicki ArkoffPop fashion from the 1980s isn’t the only thing making a stylish return from the New Wave era. The fashion-forward musicians who wore it first have also been staging comeback tours lately, including Duran Duran, Devo, Madonna, Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark, and most recently (and unexpectedly), Take On Me one-hit-wonder A-ha. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to give a returning warm welcome to British band Spandau Ballet. ... Read More |
Apr 9, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichWhat do Elton John, Hozier, Wilco, The Who, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, No Doubt, T.I., and Ed Sheeran all have in common? Each one of them will be performing at the 46th annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. With a lineup that—to some, looks better than Coachella’s—the jazz fest gives us seven full days of music, parades, crafts and food. ... Read More |
Apr 7, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichWhen we saw Sharon Marston’s sculptural lighting installations, it was literally love at first sight. The London-based artist seems to have done everything since establishing her studio in 1997, from customizing lighting for Ritz-Carlton and Tiffany & Co. to Dolce & Gabbana and Harrods. Specializing in bespoke pieces that can be customized and tailored to the needs of any client, her chandeliers use fiber optic technology in ways rarely seen. ... Read More |
Apr 6, 2015 | Contributor: Mila PantovichThe San Diego Museum of Art is about to be transformed into a secret garden, with floral designers being brought in for the museum’s annual Art Alive fundraiser. Over 100 works of art will be getting the floral treatment, with florists’ creative interpretations presented alongside the original paintings and sculptures that inspired them.
