May 28, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh Every once in a while, a resort collection will come along that challenges the assumption of clean-cut pastels that have become typical— and expected— of cruise lines. This year, Bottega Veneta fits that bill with a selection of printed and patterned garments that speak to the brand’s Italian roots. Founded in 1966 in Vicenza, the label began as a producer of leather goods but has since grown to include women’s and men’s ready-to-wear along with jewelry, furniture, and more. ... Read More |

May 15, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh A YouTube video is going viral today that has eyebrows raised, in a good way. Greg Karber is an Average Joe who, like many people, has a problem with Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries’ idea that certain demographics should not wear the Abercrombie label. Under Jeffries’ direction, aside from not offering women’s size large clothes, Abercrombie has rules for only hiring employees who meet a certain standard in terms of attractiveness. These practices and Jeffries’ idea that Abercrombie is only for the “cool kids” have been common knowledge among the public for some time, but Karber figured out a way to do something about it.... May 15, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh Sometimes we come across a collection that is so perplexing, so eyebrow-raising, that we have to dig a little deeper than what meets the eye and try to put ourselves in the shoes of the designer. What was his or her vision? What was the inspiration? Those facets aren’t always immediately obvious, and that is the case for the Fall 2013 collection by Martina Spetlova.... Read More |

May 8, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh If there’s anyone that knows how to do a bandage dress, it’s the team at Hervé Léger by Max Azria. Whether or not the brand invented the style is debatable, but one thing we can say with confidence is that Hervé Léger by Max Azria finds a way to prove season after season that there are infinite ways to strut the body-con style. May 7, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh | 1 Comment Anyone who thinks that current fashion trends aren't affected by the media has obviously not seen such popular period pieces as Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, and Mad Men,to name a few. Each of these hits has a loyal audience— and it shows on the runway when designers start borrowing ideas from what they see on their televisions. Over the last year, perhaps the biggest trend in the fashion world— both on and off the runway — has been 1920’s innuendos thanks to The Great Gatsby which will be released later this week.... The New York-based contemporary line does their thing for Summer 2013 by combining uptown and downtown looks to create a versatile collection no matter what borough you’re headed to.... Read More |
May 2, 2013 | Contributor: Nicolle Keogh Lately we’ve been taking a trip down memory lane and looking at the way past decades and time periods influence today's fashion trends. The ‘20s are making a roaring comeback with The Great Gatsby and pin-up styles of the ‘50s can be seen in modern swimwear. But we can’t help but notice the nod to the Forties that hit the runways at the most recent fashion shows. In the case of Fall 2013, we can say with pure confidence that history certainly repeats itself, thanks to sightings of slim skirts, shapely blazers, and frilly furs, of course.... Read More |
