In conjunction with the impending launch of St. Regis’ first online boutique, the luxury hotel firm just unveiled the very first product created exclusively for the St. Regis brand at a VIP event in the Grand Suite of the landmark St. Regis New York. The Grand Tourista Bag by Jason Wu for St. Regis Hotels & Resorts is a luxurious shoulder tote designed in an elegant custom black-and-white houndstooth pattern on structured canvas with rich black calfskin handles and trim. The interior features two pouch pockets lined in viscose/silk grain in Wu’s signature grey, made to accommodate tablets, e-books and a passport.
The bag is meant to be a must-have accessory for today’s style-savvy luxury travelers, devotees of the sumptuous St. Regis properties around the world. The name references the tradition of the grand tour during the golden age of travel and gives a nod to the St. Regis brand’s rich heritage, continuing today with the Grand Tour Package at new St. Regis debut destinations. St. Regis’ signature hallmarks are embossed on the bag’s leather trim in homage to the brand’s flagship hotel on 55th Street and 5th Avenue in New York, opened over a hundred years ago by John Jacob Astor IV.
The Grand Tourista Bag, Wu’s first product created exclusively for travel, will retail for $1,995 and can be found at the hotel's online boutique and at Jason Wu's official site beginning in early December. It is now available for pre-order at MODA Operandi.
Wu, a fashion designer who counts Diane Kruger, Rachel Weisz and Reese Witherspoon among his celebrity fans, is a St. Regis Connoisseur or brand ambassador who first came to the St. Regis’ attention in 2010 when he showed his collection at the St. Regis New York during Fashion Week. Fashionistas Alexa Chung and Coco Rocha were among the first to receive the new bag at the event in New York.
Current plans for the St. Regis brand to expand its legacy include new St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in the Riviera Maya and in Asia, where St. Regis has announced plans to open hotels in Changsha, Chengdu, Kuala Lumpur, Lijiang, Nanjing, New Delhi and Zhuhai. Additionally in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, St. Regis will continue to expand in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Dubai and Mauritius.
