Mother Buys $6M New York Apartment for Two-Year-Old Daughter

Have you ever thought, "I should buy a £4,000,000 New York apartment for my toddler so she has somewhere to live when she goes to college?" According to the DailyMail, a Chinese state broadcaster has done just that and bought a luxury apartment in Manhattan (for around $6,078,800) in the acclaimed One57 tower for her daughter, assuming that one day the little girl will be attending either Columbia, NYU or Harvard and will need to live in the center of the city.

Kevin Brown, senior vice president at Sotheby's International, specializes in the property and was apparently surprised at the mother's reason for purchase, as the intended occupant hasn't even learned to read yet. While it may seem odd to spend that much money on a kid, when thought of in the investment sense, the purchase doesn't seem quite as strange. You might be wondering what the buyer intends to do if her daughter chooses to live elsewhere when she gets older (though who wouldn't want to live there?), but buying an apartment in the One57 tower definitely seems like a great investment, especially considering billionaires like Michael Kors have already signed contracts for $50M full-floor flats. Someone has even snatched the penthouse on the 89th and 90th floors for a reported $95M. One57 is still under construction but the building is slated to be completely finished by the end of the year, giving plenty of time for the unnamed buyer's daughter to grow into her future home.
