The Rolex Daytona is one of the sexiest watches on the market which makes it highly desirable but also one of the most difficult to find. Collectors around the world will lunge at the opportunity to put his/her name on a waitlist at the chance to add the Daytona to their collection. Out of ALL the watches in the world why is the demand so incredibly high for the Daytona. Well, for one, it has an incredible past and everyone likes a good story, and two, Rolex doesn’t make many of them.
When originally introduced, the Daytona wasn’t particularly popular and therefore Rolex didn't make many. Once the watch became popular Rolex did a very smart thing, they continued to keep the production low and demand high, hence the multi-year waiting lists.
We reached out to Paul Altieri, Founder and CEO of Bob’s Watches to find out why the Rolex Daytona is such a grail-worthy watch and also considered a status symbol.
“It’s a magic combination of exclusivity, enduring design, and premium quality that make the Daytona a one-of-a-kind watch,” said Altieri.
Altieri continued, “the stainless-steel Rolex Daytona watches are incredibly desirable and worn as status symbols by collectors, celebrities, and the world’s rich and famous. They are, in fact, among the most expensive stainless-steel watches that Rolex offers because of this pairing of exclusivity, premium quality, and technologically advanced movements. While their price point alone does not necessarily make them automatic status symbols, the lack of availability and the long waitlists required to buy one have made them bonafide statement pieces that offer a level of exclusivity that rivals that of their precious metal counterparts.”
“The other big advantage of buying a Rolex Daytona is that not only will this watch last you for the rest of your life, but it is surely expected to rise in price as the years go on,” said Altieri.
