This week Francesca Miranda presented her premier US runway presentation at New York Bridal Fashion Week. Based in Barranquilla Colombia, the designer is well known in South America for her bridal and evening gowns as well as her craftsmanship. She sent out 17 dresses made with the help of Colombian artisans that were heavy in detail like 3D floral appliqués, Swarovski crystals and pearl-beaded embroidery. The delicate fabrics and cream shades kept the collection feeling cohesive while the silhouettes were more unexpected: oversized peplum skirts, ruched sleeves, and tiered organza and tulle over-skirts came down the runway.
The collection may have felt so mixed due to its inspiration. For Spring 2017 Miranda was influenced by women around the world from Jackie O. to Twiggy. But with so many muses she was able to create a collection where almost any bride-to-be could find the perfect gown. Cleopatra, a pearl-studded strapless gown with a flowing skirt felt like it was fit for extravagant nuptials. For the more eccentric bride, Mirabi included a high-low hemline, heavy tiers of tulle and oversized polka dots. One of our favorites, Yoko, featured a leaf-embroidered illusion bodice with a lightly layered skirt of sheer organza.
