Every girl wants to be a princess—that was the thought process behind Dolce & Gabbana’s new Fall 2016 collection. Instead of taking us to the streets of Sicily (again) Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce dropped us firmly between the pages of our favorite fairy tales. The runway was filled with references to Cinderella, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty, reimagined for fashionable fantasy lovers.
With a soundtrack that played like an opening score from our favorite Disney movie and a set that made us feel as if we had stumbled down the rabbit hole, the runway was primed for a magical, fantasy-laden adventure—and it didn’t disappoint. A pale blue tinsel dress with puffed sleeves paired with glass slippers perfectly evoked Cinderella’s iconic ball gown, while a series of black tailcoats trimmed in ribbon and baubles made for an elegant Prince Charming. Glitter appliqués and prints gave nods to poisoned apples, white rabbits and nutcracker soldiers.
For any woman who doesn’t quite feel that sparkling royal balls and talking mice become her, the designers also sent out a series of dramatic black dresses and suits that better captured the essence of the evil queen and wicked stepmother. The dark looks wouldn’t be complete without accessories like big chest-shaped satchels—to stash your lipstick, iPhone and the heart of Snow White, of course.
