For three generations, the Barouh family has been dedicated to the refined art of watchmaking, with each family member contributing a creative quality to the business, which is now worth $50 million. It all began in Geneva when Maurice Barouh taught his son Jack the essentials of watchmaking. Jack learned how patience and dedication to quality were the key ingredients to producing the perfect watch. Jack contributed an element of innovative design. In the 1970s, Jack and his wife, Rita, moved to Panama to help run the family business. As the watches were gaining popularity in the Latin American market, Jack and Rita had two children, Jeremy and Michele.
With several years of expertise now under his belt, Jack moved his family to Miami in order to pursue his new business, Michele Watches, named for his daughter. Jack understood the fundamentals and mechanics that were essential to fine watch production and brought with him an enthusiasm to improve each and every watch.
Sticking to their roots, Michele and her brother, Jeremy, took an interest in the watchmaking business and added a new, youthful energy to the already seasoned craft. Michele formalized her training with a degree in both Art History and International Relations and later earned her Master's Degree in the Business of Art at the Sotheby's Institute in London.
Today, Michele serves as the creative director for her namesake, and plays a crucial role in determining design, limited edition collections, and advertising campaigns. Michele also works as a spokesperson and makes personal appearances on behalf of the company at fine retailers such as, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. Michele finds inspiration as a world-traveler and incorporates international accents into her collections.
