Last night at the London Coliseum, the 2014 British Fashion Awards were held to honor the best of the UK’s designers, models, editors and icons. One of the poshest events of the year (quite literally, even Posh Spice Victoria Beckham was in attendance), the red carpet was a veritable who’s who of the fashion industry. Models-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner, and Karlie Kloss all graced the red carpet in white and pale nude colors, while style celebs Rihanna and Emma Watson looked bold in oversized blazers. Beckham wore black and white separates from her own line, while Anna Wintour rocked a gown from pal John Galliano.
The major awards of the evening went to Erdem Moralioglu for Womenswear Designer of the Year, Cara Delevinge for Model of the Year, Victoria Beckham for Brand of the Year, Emma Watson for the British Style Award and J.W. Anderson for Menswear of the Year. Newly appointed Maison Martin Margiela designer John Galliano presented Anna Wintour with the British Fashion Council Outstanding Achievement Award, where she gave gratitude to her British roots, but thanked her children, Bee and Charlie Schaffer (Bee was in attendance) most of all, as they are her “most outstanding achievements.”
The evening was filled with laughs and tears. Beckham thanked her parents, admitting she was “a pain in the bottom!” as she accepted an award for Brand of the Year, and there was a moment of silence for Central Saint Martins’ professor Louise Wilson who passed away this year. The audience flipped when One Direction’s Harry Styles took to the stage (who knew there were so many teen girls in attendance?) to introduce Emma Watson for the British Style Award, and fashion besties Rihanna and Naomi Campbell presented Edward Enninful, fashion and style director of W magazine, with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator of the Year.
