Luxury properties are a dime a dozen, but finding something extra special, with a little history and character, can be harder to come by. If cookie-cutter penthouses don’t suit your taste then you’ll want to jump on the waitlist for one of the residences in the upcoming Helicopter Factory. The new project by Brick Lane and Brook Rose Development will take an old, defunct helicopter warehouse complex from the 20th century and transform it into 15 high-end condos.
Three warehouses currently stand on the property and one will be transformed into the complex’s largest home, covering 5,100 square feet and 2.5 floors, while another will be the second largest at 2,500 square feet. The third warehouse will be turned into a landscaped courtyard for recreational activities, but will retain its century-old walls and beams. Six industrial-style row houses will be built on what is currently the parking lot, and will house the remaining 13 units.
The property was first acquired by Brook Rose in January 2014 for $1.9 million with Brick Lane later purchasing the space for $3.9 million. This year, the two developers broke ground on the first phase of the project which involves the construction of the industrial-style row houses. Phase two will involve remodeling the currently standing historic warehouses. Starting prices have yet to be disclosed.
