It wasn’t too long ago that heading to the spa for a weekly facial was the norm, but with the uprising of at-home services, leaving your home for a beauty treatment isn’t very brag-worthy anymore. Besides, you don’t often see movie stars and political heavyweights getting their pedicures done in public, do you? Of course not. That’s what their at-home spas are for. Washington-based entrepreneur Susanna Quinn, the wife of Democratic lobbyist Jack Quinn, launched a new start-up beauty-on-demand app called Veluxe to meet this very need.
Veluxe launched in beta January 12, sending out personalized invites to 80 DC personalities (including political reporters, fashion editors, and State Department staff). According to The Washington Post, Quinn isn’t divulging just who she sent the special codes to, but she did describe the specific kind of person she created the app for. “I want the person who lives in Vienna and works as a busy lawyer who doesn’t have the time to go to the salon because she’s got the school auction on Thursday night,” said Quinn.
If that sounds like you, get in line, because Veluxe had some 500 invite requests after only being available for a couple weeks—one of which was apparently a congresswoman—so you may have to wait a bit before being accepted.
Currently, Veluxe offers hair styling services, yoga, personal trainers, and makeup artists, and is planning on adding massages and manicure/pedicures soon.
