Soon Washington D.C. will have a new luxury waterfront hotel. Earlier this week, Carr City Centers announced their partnership with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Clark Enterprises, Hoffman-Madison Waterfront and The Wharf to build a new 278-room resort along the Washington Channel. The new waterfront development is expected to house a spa, rooftop bar and pool, signature restaurant, sky-view lounge, and 17,000 square feet of meeting space. Intending to market to both high-powered businessmen in the D.C. area and luxury travelers, the new hotel will aesthetically compliment the nearby Willard InterContinental.
"The new InterContinental hotel on the southwest waterfront is an exciting opportunity to develop a marquee property as part of a first-class redevelopment in such a highly visible gateway to the city,” Austin Flajser, president of Carr Hospitality, said in a statement. “We are creating a unique property with waterfront views and amenities unlike anything else offered in Washington D.C.”
Construction is expected to begin sometime in early 2016, with opening dates estimated around the second quarter of 2017. While costs were not disclosed for the new property specifically, the new resort is part of a $2 billion, three million-square-foot “mixed-use waterfront development” by The Wharf. Just as with their Times Square and San Francisco locations, InterContinental intends to apply for LEED Silver certification for sustainable design which will contribute in the LEED-ND Gold Status that The Wharf is hoping to obtain by the development’s opening.
