Wine Tasting: Virginia wineries are catching the eye of wine lovers nationwide. The best chance to learn more is at the upcoming fourth annual Virginia Wine Expo, February 25-27 at the Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia. All attendees will be able to sip wine from over 60 Virginia wineries and sample gourmet food from some of the region's finest chefs.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Lexus of Richmond Walk-Around Grand Tastings will be held, with an opportunity to sample, or purchase, from over 350 different labels. Food pairings will include sushi, chocolate, pastries and other assorted desserts for after hours. Whole Foods will have a cheese showcase with cheeses from around the world.
Five seminars will cover the basics of food and wine pairings. Of interest may be the best wine for burgers (who knew they went well with anything but beer?) and pairings for spicy Indian food (always a challenge).
The event has grown in popularity over the years due in part to the increase in sales of Virginia wines, up 13 percent in 2010 over 2009.
