We’ve seen some pretty cool, well-designed villas in our time, but Keemala’s accommodations in Phuket might be some of our favorites. Opened in December 2015, the wellness-focused resort was designed by Architect Space and interior designer Pisit Aongskultong. The pair envisioned a property that would blend in with the surrounding Thai jungle and be created as structures that the island’s indigenous clans might have once lived in.
The resort’s 38 pool villas are separated into four groups and were inspired by the spiritual philosophies and techniques of these indigenous people. Of the choices, the most notable are the Tree Pool Houses that are suspended among the trees. These bi-level homes were motivated by the We-Ha (Sky) clan whom are believed to have been creators, architects, healers and inventors. Their houses were elevated in order to obtain better creativity.
The treetop villas have a whimsical feel to them and feature suspended furniture indoors, cocoon-like beds, private pools and a lounge level that can be converted into a second bedroom. Both an outdoor and indoor shower are included as well as a spacious terrace. Not only are the villas beautiful, they are also eco-friendly. Rates begin at around $592 per night.
